How to use popups without hurting the visit
Good popups give shoppers a reason to stay. These are the rules we follow when we build campaigns with merchants.
The playbook.
Lead with value
A welcome discount or free shipping in exchange for an email is a fair trade. Say what they get in the headline, in a few words.
Time it to intent
Show the welcome popup after a shopper has looked around, and use exit intent for people about to leave. Do not open on the first second of the first page.
Target, do not blast
Use targeting by page, device and location so each visitor sees the right offer, once.
Connect your email tool
Send sign-ups straight to Klaviyo, Mailchimp or HubSpot, or a webhook, so the welcome series starts right away.
Keep games light
Spin to win can lift sign-ups when the prizes are real and the form stays short.
Test one change at a time
A/B test the headline or the offer, not everything at once, and keep the winner.
